The term 'riparian' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' Living on or adjacent to a water supply such as a riverbank, lake, or pond. Of, on, or pertaining to the bank of a river, pond, or lake'.

The term 'riparian' as it applies to the area of coastlines can be defined as ' (1) pertaining to the banks of a body of water. (2) (smp) of, on or pertaining to the banks of a river'.
