The term 'hydrology' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' Scientific study of water in nature: its properties, distribution, and behavior. The science that treats the occurrence, circulation properties, and distribution of the waters of the earth and their reaction to the environment. Science dealing with the properties, distribution and flow of water on or in the earth'.

The term 'hydrology' as it applies to the area of the weather can be defined as ' The scientific study of the waters of the earth, especially with relation to the effects of precipitation and evaporation upon the occurrence and character of water on or below the land surface'.

The term 'hydrology' as it applies to the area of carbon dioxide can be defined as ' The science dealing with the properties, distribution, and circulation of water'.
