The term 'epidemiology' as it applies to the area of carbon dioxide can be defined as ' The study of diseases as they affect populations, including the distribution of disease or other health-related states and events in human populations, the factors (e.g., age, sex, occupation, and economic status) that influence this distribution, and the application of this study to control health problems'.

The term 'epidemiology' as it applies to the area of hazardous materials can be defined as 'The study of the distribution and determinants of disease or health status in a population; the study of the occurrence and causes of health effects in humans'.

The term 'epidemiology' as it applies to the area of drug testing can be defined as ' The branch of medical science that deals with the study of incidence and distribution and control of a disease in a population'.
