The term 'creek' as it applies to the area of the weather can be defined as ' A small stream of water which serves as the natural drainage course for a drainage basin of nominal, or small size. The term is a relative one as to size, some creeks in the humid section would be called rivers if they occurred in the arid portion. '.

The term 'creek' as it applies to the area of coastlines can be defined as ' (1) a stream, less predominant than a river, and generally tributary to a river. (2) a small tidal channel through a coastal marsh'.
