The term 'buoyancy' as it applies to the area of the weather can be defined as ' The tendency of a body to float or to rise when submerged in a fluid; the power of a fluid to exert an upward force on a body placed in it'.

The term 'buoyancy' as it applies to the area of coastlines can be defined as ' the resultant upward forces, exerted by the water on a submerged or floating body, equal to the weight of the water displaced by this body'.
