The term 'accretion' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' Process of growth whereby material is added to the outside of nonliving matter. The gradual increase in flow of a stream attributable to seepage, ground water discharge, or tributary inflow'.

The term 'accretion' as it applies to the area of coastlines can be defined as ' the accumulation of (beach) sediment, deposited by natural fluid flow processes'.
