The term 'Uprate' as it applies to the area of energy can be defined as ' An increase in available electric generating unit power capacity due to a system or equipment modification. An uprate is typically a permanent increase in the capacity of a unit'.

The term 'Uprate' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' An increase of greater than 15 percent in powerplant unit output at an existing facility through modifications or replacement of equipment'.
