Swell

The term 'Swell' as it applies to the area of the weather can be defined as ' Wind-generated waves that have travelled out of their generating area. Swells characteristically exhibit smoother, more regular and uniform crests and a longer period than wind waves'.

The term 'Swell' as it applies to the area of coastlines can be defined as ' waves that have traveled a long distance from their generating area and have been sorted out by travel into long waves of the same approximate period'.

The term 'Swell' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' Increase of bulk in soil or rock when excavated'.
