(PRA-vuh-KOL) A drug that lowers the amount of cholesterol in the blood. It may also make tumor cells more sensitive to anticancer drugs, and is being studied in the treatment of cancer. It belongs to the families of drugs called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) and chemosensitizers. Also called pravastatin.
