The term 'Pluripotent' as it applies to the area of stem cell research can be defined as 'The state of a single cell that is capable of differentiating into all tissues of an organism, but not alone capable of sustaining full organismal development, because for instance, it lacks competency to generate all the supporting extra-embryonic structures of the placenta'.
