It is the opposite of difluence. Confluence is not the same as convergence. Winds often accelerate as they enter a confluent zone, resulting in speed divergence which offsets the (apparent) converging effect of the confluent flow'.The term 'Confluence' as it applies to the area of coastlines can be defined as ' the junction of two or more river reaches or branches (the opposite of a bifurcation)'. The term 'Confluence' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' The place where two streams meet, or the stream formed from two joining streams'.
