TeachMeFinance.com - explain zoning

zoning -- technically is a legislative process that divides a community up into different areas for different specified land uses. Zoning regulates the location, density, height, type and overall size of buildings that can be built in each zone. The zones are designated according to broad categories of land use. These include residential, commercial or industrial. There are also more categories specifically as to building type or density of land use. Examples include single family or multifamily residential.
