Active Account -- An account with a brokerage house or firm that is subject to a large number of transactions. An active account generates more commissions or earnings for each deal made or each check written. Charges and penalties may be imposed if an account does not show strong activity or remains passive for a long time. In case the account is not touched for five years or more, it is liable to Escheat procedures by which the assets come in the possession of the state.

Active account -- An account to which debits and credits are
frequently added. An active account in a bank is one which is frequently augmented
by deposits and likewise is frequently diminished by
drafts upon (by checks drawn against) it. An active speculative account (as in stocks , grain, cotton or
coffee, etc.) is one where the speculator buys and sells with
frequency.
